Enjoying the car

There is a large gap in the photo history at this point so that I can fast forward to the completed car. With and without a top, the 289 roadster is the true epitome of the classic English sports car and with the Ford 289 engine it is way to much fun.

Two photos of the engine bay of the roadster. The basics; 289 Ford motor with COBRA lettered manifold, an original Holley 715 CFM carburetor, 289 Hipo heads, correct radiator and surge tank and headers.

Many people think that the 427 is THE Cobra, but I still prefer the more balanced handling, the reduced heat and all around more fun that one can have with the 289. In addition to being driven as a commuter for several years, the 289 has seen many open track events with the NORCAL SAAC (the local Shelby American Automobile Club). The photo below was taken at one of these outings at Laguna Seca having great fun and accelerating hard out of the old turn 9.

The car, which we now call "Red", has over 80,000 miles on the odometer and has taken us on many fun trips throughout the western USA. Many of these trips have been leisurely enough that Kodak moments were possible. A number of the photos have been included in the Roadtrips section of this site.
