The doors on the coupe are also an interesting piece of fabrication. The doors have a "box like" frame which is fabricated from body gauge aluminum. The box frame is riveted to the steel door hinge as well as to a surrounding piece of 18 gauge steel which provides the support and perimeter for the actual door skin. The following photos show the almost completed construction of the hinges and the beginning stages of fabrication for the door box framing.
The left door is progressing in the following shots. The first photos shows the latch temporally installed onto the inner door framing and the forming required to match the door curvature to the inner wheel arch. The next photo shows the forming required at the front end of the door. The third photo is a perspective of the actual inner structure of the completed door frame and perimeter steel. The final photo shows a trial fitting of the door skin onto the door frame.
